Tru Tech Invades Round 2 of Pro Kart Challenge California
On March 7th Willow Springs International Raceway played host to round 2 of the SuperKarts! USA (SKUSA) Pro Kart Challenge California championship series. With clear sky’s and stacked fields the racing action was close. Tru Tech Racing Engines would be represented well across the four TaG classes.
A debut weekend for Tru Tech with the new IAME Mini Swift engine package in TaG Cadet with five drivers entered. Drivers showed competitive pace through Saturday with Cole Keith Cotham posting the 2nd fast lap in qualifying. Cotham challenged for the win all the way to the main event checkered just missing a podium in 4th. Running into racing heartbreak both Carson Morgan and Jacob Blue Hudson would be victims to on track incidents after being the two fastest drivers to conclude Friday practice.
In TaG Senior both Jake Craig and Matt Johnson worked through the weekend to better their pace. At the end of Saturday both drivers scored valuable points securing 5th and 6th respectively.
TaG Junior and TaG Masters came with much success for Tru Tech competitors. In TaG Junior Nicky Hayes made up for misfortune in round 1 to secure a 7+ second victory over the hottest junior driver in the United States, Sting Ray Robb. Some of the best racing came from the TaG Masters class with fierce battles happening throughout the field. Vatche Tatikian swept the day’s events leading every lap through the main event. Tru Tech drivers Brian Phillipsen and Derek Burris showed their years of racing putting on a show while battling for a podium in the main event. Burris would be forced to retire with a punctured radiator while Phillipsen held on to the final podium spot finishing 3rd.
