Tru Tech Scores Victories at LAKC
Round 4 of the 2014 Los Angeles Karting Championship took place this past weekend at the CalSpeed Karting facility in Fontana, CA. Tru Tech Racing Engines drivers would spend much of Saturday adjusting to the challenging Nuevo track layout with racing action taking place on Sunday. Tru Tech drivers would come out of Sunday competiton with 2 poles and 3 class victories.
Getting things started off was Senior PRD Pilot driver Andrew Lemons putting his Tony Kart to the top of the charts in qualifying and heat race competition. Fellow Tru Tech driver KC Cook didn’t let Lemons get away qualifying 2nd on his Kosmic. Cook would get the best of Lemons in the main taking his second class victory of the season. Lemons would finish 2nd with last month’s victor Jacob Pope in 4th.
A familiar name to most, FIA F3 European Championship driver Gustavo Menezes made a return stateside to compete in Senior TaG. Menezes picked up where he left off in karting putting his 2Wild Karting/Tony Kart/X30 package to the top spot in qualifying. Running an identical package, Eric Molinatti would make it another 1-2 for Tru Tech in qualifying. After winning the heat race Menezes would be delegated to the back due to a technical infraction moving Molinatti to the top spot. Molinatti would drive away with the victory extending his points lead with Tru Tech driver Vincent Tam finishing 2nd with another IAME X30 package. Nobody counted Menezes out making a drive from 19th to a respectable 4th place result.
In TaG Masters Brian Phillipsen and Nicolas Esguerra would qualify 4th and 5th both powered with Tru Tech Rotax packages. Phillipsen moved up to 2nd in the heat race with Esguerra falling out after 4 laps. Esguerra would advance from 13th to 8th in the final while Phillipsen made his move to the top spot on lap 4 and held it to secure the win.
In Senior PRD Jordan Robertson got shuffled back early from his 2nd place starting spot in the final. After the 14 lap event Robertson found himself contending for the victory, having to settle for 2nd. Robby Stanovich would qualify 2nd in class, a flat tire would take him out of contention in the final. Colin Queen was the lone Mini RoK pilot qualifying 4th and finishing 5th in the final.
